No full-text supported languages found in SQL Server Express with Advanced Services

I've downloaded SQL Server Express with Advanced Services from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ and installed all components. When I try to create a full-text catalog, I get the following message:

No full-text supported languages found.

select * from sys.fulltext_languages
returns no lines.

How

can neutral, English or maybe Hungarian word breakers be installed?

Thanks

Hello Peter

Are you sure you installed Full Text Support option when installing SQL Express?

Thanks,

|||

I have just installed SQL 2005 Express with Advanced Services to test this out and it returns me all the languages fine :

Just make sure you have install Full Text Search option.

|||It was surely installed because msftesql.exe was running.

I reinstalled Sql Server Express with the following changes and now full-text search works:
- I use default instance instead of named instance
- IIS was enabled during installation
- The installation folder was selected so that to be different from the folder of previous installations.

Maybe the Sql Server 2005 wasn't removed correctly before installing Express and some components had conflict with each other. I don't know what the real reason was of the problem. The important thing is that now it works.|||

Hi,

I Have the same problem, i execute the T-sql statement select * from sys.fulltext_languages and i get zero rows, i uninstalled and installed again and nothing happend i still have zero when executing that statement, i try another computer and there evrything went fine!.. i do have Microsoft Net framework, and everything but i still can get this to work! help please!!!

|||Hello everybody, I am facing the same issue. It's really frustrating.
I have removed and reinstalled SQL Express 3 times, changed the installation path, but no hope.
I can't set it as the default instance since I'm using MSDE as default instance.
Any idea please?|||

Are you sure you actually installed FTS; this feature is not installed by default, you must specifically select it from the feature list. Open up the SQL Configuration Manager and look at the Services node to verify that SQL Server FullText Search is listed and running.

If it's not listed, you didn't install it and you'll need to go into maintenance mode and select it from the feature list to get it installed.

Hi,

I am having a similar problem. How do I go to maintenance mode? I also can't find anything called "SQL Configuration Manager".

|||

Hello Mike and thanks for the reply.
Of course I have installed FTS and it's listed in the configuration manager.
This problem is driving me crazy, it has taken 3 days from the tight timeframe of my project and I didn't find any solution.
I have removed MSDE, removed everything related to MsSql from the registry, deleted the installation directory, used "Windows install clean up" and reinstalled SQL Express with FTS as default instance may be more than 5 times and no hope.
Is there any way to install these damn languages manually? in the registry or whatever.
May be the problem is that SQL Express (without Advanced services) was installed previously and some trace is kept in the registry.
I don't know!
Any idea is really appreciated.

No entries in Database Mail log (sysmail_event_log)

Hi. I've reviewed the following webpage http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189959.aspx and didn't get the answer I was looking for. (Service Broker is running in msdb.)

Essentially, Database Mail isn't logging entries. Using the following example script:

EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
@.recipients=N'someone@.somewhere.com',
@.body='Message Body',
@.subject ='Message Subject'

I get the result "Mail queued," and I confirm I receive the email.

However, there are no records in the following tables:

select * from sysmail_event_log
select * from sysmail_faileditems
select * from sysmail_unsentitems

There are records that the send-off was a success:

select * from sysmail_sentitems

Database Mail's "Logging Level" to normally set to Normal. I've changed to Verbose and see no change.

Anyone see something I'm missing?

There should not be any records in

sysmail_event_log
sysmail_faileditems
sysmail_unsentitems

for a sucessfully sent email.

There should be a record in

sysmail_faileditems
sysmail_unsentitems

|||I don't know... the other servers log messages in sysmail_event_log such as "Activation successful," "DatabaseMail process is started," and "Mail successfully sent" .|||

Contains one row for each Windows or SQL Server message returned by the Database Mail system. (Message in this context refers to a message such as an error message, not an e-mail message.) As suggested Use sysmail_sentitems when you want to see which messages were successfully sent.

BOL confirms:

When troubleshooting Database Mail, search the sysmail_event_log view for events related to e-mail failures. Some messages, such as the failure of the Database Mail external program, are not associated with specific e-mails. To search for errors related to specific e-mails, look up the mailitem_id of the failed e-mail in the sysmail_faileditems view and then search the sysmail_event_log for messages related to that mailitem_id. When an error is returned from sp_send_dbmail, the e-mail is not submitted to the Database Mail system and the error is not displayed in this view.

When individual account delivery attempts fail, Database Mail holds the error messages during retry attempts until the mail item delivery either succeeds or fails. In case of ultimate success, all of the accumulated errors get logged as separate warnings including the account_id. This can cause warnings to appear, even though the e-mail was sent. In case of ultimate delivery failure, all previous warnings get logged as one error message without an account_id, since all accounts have failed.

no data returned when using a stylesheet

Executing http queries works fine. But when I try to use a xls stylesheet in the query, I get headings but no data. It must be something in the stylesheet but I cant identify the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
This code is based on examples from P151 in John Griffins book XML and SQL Server 2000 using the Northwind database.
IIS and sql server are running on the same machine (bne20dbm07). Profiler shows that the data is being retrieved.
Using Windows server 2000, SQL 2000 sp3a, all hotfixes applied, MSXML 3.0 sp4
Queries are being run for a Windows XP machine via IE 6 sp1 plus hotfixes.
httpQuery

eId="3" Shipname="Victuailles en stock" /></ROOT>
stylesheet query

http://bne20dbm07/Nwind?sql=select+T...xsl&root=ROOT
Results (Only the heading text in the table is displayed)
Order ID Ship Name
The only problem I could find is with the stylesheet namespace declaration -
I had to change it to <xsl:stylesheet
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0"> (i.e. with a
version attribute)
Other than that it worked OK for me from both the local PC and a remote
client.
You don't list SQLXML 3.0 sp2 as being installed - it *should* still work
without it, but I haven't tested it.

I feel for you brother! I've been through similar experiences with products
that you download, hoping that things will just work straight up & more
times than not, there's something that bites you in the ass.. I guess it at
least helps us appreciate when things work as they should.
One thing I'd suggest is to use SQL Profiler to peek into the background SQL
Server activity. That way you'll at least get the opportunity to see what's
going on (if anything) at the SQL level. Other options may be to attach the
Win32 debugger to the VB process or other debuggers such as VC++, softice
etc - these will give you some insight into the VB executable's activity.
COM+ has a few GUI features that let you view activity within it's runtime
as well.. Perhaps using these tools, you might be able to at least glean at
what component levels things are / aren't happening.

it to work. If they said, "Well I followed the directions" then actually
that would be enough for me since I did change the connection string to
allow IUSR_MachineName to connect. But since I am not getting any

Could someone explain where this application goes wrong and let me know
where to set it right. It does not work as written. The VBCOM+SQL part.
Thanks.
