No mapping between account names and security IDs was done

Hi
I haven't done much with AS2005. Today I was trying to migrate an AS2000 cube to As2005 using Migration Wizard.

Existing AS2000 cube is on Windows 2000 Server (SP4). Destination server has Windows 2003 Server with June CTP.

Migration Wizard goes through the validating databases. During metadata migration I get the following error "The following system error occurred: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done."

I am running the OLAP Service on Win 2000 and 2003 Server under LocalSystem (might not be the best option).

Has anyone come across this before or know how to resolve it?

Thanks

SuthaAs Chris W suggested, I made a copy of the AS2K cube and removed the roles from the cube and then ran the migration wizard. The meta data migration was successful.

Thanks Chris

Hi Folks,

i've had the same message in SSAS 2005 whilst trying to add a domain local group to the "Server Role".

e.g. Right click the server, select "Properties" and then select "Security".

Is it possible to add a windows group here or is it just restricted to users? The wording is "The server role is used to grant server-wide security privilages to a user".

If this is restricted to just user accounts, then how could i add a windows group (a group of users that are administrators) to a similar role?

Cheers,

Kyle.

|||

Hi,

PLEASE NOTE: My post above is now out of date! I tried adding the groups again and it worked fine.

In my place it can take up to 15 minutes for replication to occur on the domain so it looks like the account i created wasn't immediately visible!

Watch out for this one if you use domain replication on you domain servers!

Cheers,

Kyle.

Hi,

I created a user account on my active directory service. I then tried
to assign a service located on my SQL server to be executed by this

Hi,

Try giving the "WMI control" full permission and also the DCOM
settings as full permission.
then restart the WMI service.

No Management Studio in 2005 Enterprise Edition

I have installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition Evaluation on my

machine and Management Studio or Enterprise Manager is not present. Do

i need to perform extra task or did i do sth wrong when installing this.

Thanks for your attention.

It's more likely that you did not install the client components
When you setup program, at one stage wou have choice to check the components you want to install
Client components are grouped under the name orf workstation or something similar (Sorry I don't remeber the exact name))

No Mail icon in control panel?

This is too weird.

No Mail for Me!

Hey all,

I've got a Enterprise SQL 2000 server setup for my websites. I wanted to use the operators and sqlmail SP's for some things. So i setup everything but i'm not able to actually send any email.

I have outlook 2002 installed on the server and the server account is set to the mail profile 'SQLMail' and this account is set to run both MSSQLServer and SQL Agent.

Here's the catch. We run exchange here on a domain XYZ. my server is a standalone and does not actully connect to the XYZ domain. Does this mean that i can't use the mail capabilities in SQL?

When setting things up i'm able to test connections to my profile and i get the A-OK messages i should expect BUT when i try to test an email or email pager account for an operator it fails. My SQL Agent log shows:

[260] Unable to start mail session (reason: Unable to logon (reason: Unable to get the default MAPI Message Store due to MAPI error 273:
The information store could not be opened); check the mail profile and/or the SQLSERVERAGENT service startup account)

Any ideas?Couple things you should test:

1. Can you send mail successfully when logged into the machine with Sql run account? This should answer your questions about the domain.

2. Is Outlook your default mail client when logged in with run account? Check Internet Options, Programs tab, Under Email.

3. Under Mail in the Control Panel make sure the mail profile you select in Sql Agent is used when starting Outlook and setup correctly.

Hope this helps.

no luck w/ execute sql task and assigning variable

Hello,

I've asked this question before and I've read the answers before and I still cannot get it to work. My task is simple, I want to use the execute sql task container to grab a value from a database and put it in a variable. I've done all the preliminary stuff such as running profiler to make sure that the package is getting the call to the database, setting up the ResultSet to be "single row" in the general tab, mapped the Result Set correctly, but nothing works. I get the same error every time.

This is my sql command:

select output_location as output_location
from script_master

Result Set is set up like this:

Result Name: output_location ; Variable Name: User::output_location

Here is the error I get:

Error: 0xC002F309 at Execute SQL Task, Execute SQL Task: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "output_location": "The type of the value being assigned to variable "User::output_location" differs from the current variable type. Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object.

".

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I've followed all the instructions exactly on how to populate a variable in this container. My variable is set up as a string, if I change it to object I can get it to work. I think this is because the object is allowing nulls. I really believe that the variable is not populating and that is why I'm getting errors.

Please help. If you could provide step by step example's that would really make my day.

Thanks,

Phil

First, your result set name should be "0".
Second, does your query return more than one row? If not, make sure that your result set is set to "single row." If your query returns more than one row, then you'll need to make sure User::output_location is an OBJECT datatype. If you only have one row being returned, then User::output_location can be set to the datatype of the query returned value.|||

How many rows does the query retreive? are you sure?

What is the data type of the column you are trying to query?

What is the data type of Variable?

|||Hi Phil,

You can modify your select statement to handle nulls:

select ISNULL(output_location,'') as output_location
from script_master

I partly disagree with Phil (Brammer) that you should set the Result set name to "0". That depends... if you're using an ADO.NET connection manager "0" would work but if you're using an OLEDb connection manager then the column name of the result (in this case, "output_location") should be used.|||

I just played around with this some more. I made the sql statement:

select count(output_location) as output_location

from script_master

and the result is 1. I also changed the variable to int16 and IT WORKED!! But, alas, that's not what I want I actually want the value of output_location which is a nvarchar column in the database. As soon as I changed the variable from int16 back to string and changed count(output_location) back to just output_location, I got the same error as before.

Could it have anything to do with my result of output_location is returning a string like this:

\\usilchfp01\userdata\ptackett\SSIS\test.xls

Thanks for the quick replies,
Phil

OLE DB uses numeric parameter names. You have that backwards, but the point is still valid.|||

Hmmm, not sure. Perhaps you can chnage the value in the table to a more simple and test it.

|||

Ok, I tried the:

select isnull(output_location,'') as output_location

from script_master

Same result.

I also tried it with a where clause, figuring it didn't like the fact I didn't have one before:

select isnull(output_location,'') as output_location

from script_master

where 1 = 1

That also didn't work.

I've tried using the "0" as the result name as well as "output_location" both do not work.

I appreciate the feedback so far. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Phil

|||Oops sorry didn't see the post above.

I think the \\ might be wrecking the variable somehow. Strings in SSIS use C-style escaping, so having backslashes allover the place might be emitting some illegal escape characters of some sort. That's just a guess.

You might want to try this approach: assign another variable as an object to the Result of your query. Then have your original string variable's EvaluateExpression property set to True. In the expression cast the object to a string with the expression "<DT_STR 30,1252> @.[User::objOutputLocation]"

(I'm not sure with the property name and the expression... I'm not on my SSIS machine right now)|||

I just updated it from to be:

update script_master

set output_location = 'try this'

so it's now "try this" as a string. But that didn't work either.

What's the column type of output_location? varchar? nvarchar?|||nvarchar|||nvarchar(max) actually|||

Well, I just figured it out. I changed my column from nvarchar(max) to nvarchar(500) and it works fine. What the *&^$? It also works if the column is nvarchar(max) and you cast or convert it along the way. Oh well, I learned this the hard way.

Thanks,

Phil

|||Ouch. I think that's it. It's possible that SSIS strings don't handle unicode strings that are that wide (specifically because nvarchars are twice the size of varchars).

If you can try to narrow your nvarchar definition (perhaps nvarchar(2000) would suffice) then try again, I think the problem will be solved. Otherwise you can try out what I posted above (the one that uses expressions).

No longer need default instance of SQL Server

Currently I have a server that has two instances of SQL Server that are
both heavily used. We are moving the databases that are on the default

there a good way to remove the default instance and make the named

You could uninstall the default instance and keep the named instance
as it is. To be honest, I have not actually tried it, but I am quite
convinced that it is possible.

I don't see the point with making the named instance the default
instance, not the least if you would have to go and change
connection strings.

And I don't think there is a simple way to rename an instance. Probably
the easiest method would be to detach the databases, and attach them
to the existing default instance. If you really want to have them a
default instance, that is.

seemed to be fine. It seems this will be my solution.

No longer emailing

Hi all,
On Thursday, the reports scheduled to be emailed suddenly stooped being
sent. When I go into the report, it shows an error as follows:
Failure sending mail: The message could not be sent to the SMTP server.
The transport error code was 0x800ccc15. The server response was not
available
Can anybody tell me what this means?
Many ThanksThere is some error with your SMTP server. You should contact the owner of
this server to see if it is still up and responding.

no longer can access database after changing password

I can no longer can access my database after changing my password for windows even though I changed it back.
Posted: 02 Sep 2003 09:18 PM
My wife started my computer and was prompted to change the password(win 2K Prof) and she did. Grrrrrrrrrr.
After logging in under the new password, I changed it back to the origional.
Ever since, I can not connect or start the database(sql 2k). I receive the error:
SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
Please help me.
Thanks

No longer able to open up .rptproj

My visual studio .net application previously had not problem opening .rptroj
files, but now it tells me "Make sure the application for the project type
(.rptproj) is installed"
Also, when I try to create a new project, the "Business Intelligence"
project type is not listed. I have seen some suggestions on line about
removing msatinterop.dll from the PrivateAssemblies directory but this does
not change a thing for me.Try running VS from the command line with the /resetskippkgs switch. That
should do the trick. Your command would look something like:
C:\>cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\IDE\
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\IDE>devenv
/resetskipkgs
This is assuming you have RS installed to the default directory. You would
obviously have to find where the devenv.exe file is in order to run the file.

running devenv.exe to no avail. On the default install for RS it
leaves the Report Designer unchecked. When you reinstall (or repair)
make sure this component is checked and it should solve the problem.

Help,
Thanks.
Doug,
Now change the password in Control Panel - Services for the SQL Server and
SQL Server Agent services. Then restart them there. Password changes at a
domain level do not "trickle down".

No login windows for DB

Greetings,
One of the DBs on my mssql server should ask for a login and password to change content. The content/DB is access via web page. Any suggestions as to why it has suddenly stopped challenging the user for login? I checked the services and all the necessary ones seems to be running.

Thanks in advance.
spdunneCheck your web browser settings. It is probably cached some how. Make sure you delete all cookies, history, etc. and try again.

Also make sure that the website is not using windows authentication; this will automatically log you into the db.

I suspect that this issue is either with the browser or web page, not the DB.

Good luck,
Hope this helped

No Login Required

Is it possible to create a folder of reports that do not require a log
in to execute? I would like to be able to put specific reports in a
open folder so that people can run them without login.
Thanks

You can select the folder, then press properties> Security. You can
add users there. There is a catch though because different Reporting
Servers work in different ways. Now, my company uses Windows Login
for the Reporting Server. Previously, this was separate and everyone
had a separate account for RptServ, SQLServ, and all other tools.
Just add the users under the security tab, make sure they're BROWSERS
otherwise you may go back to the folder and find it... blank.|||On May 4, 11:34 am, Ayman <ayma...@.gmail.com> wrote:

Thanks, but right when I iopen my browser on my desktop and point to
the folder, I get login required. I am actually trying t use the
following logic and not even go to the report server.
http://rpt-serv/ReportServer?/sales%2fC+of+C&shipnum=2022222&rs:Format=PDF
If I put this in a browser, I can get my report output in .pdf format,
without going to the webpage. I would just like to retreive this
report without stopping for a login prompt. If I could do that, then
I can write a front end prompt in my app.
Enter ship number [1234544]
Make sense?

I understand, you want the entire ReportServer not to have a login.
Here our's is passed through by Windows Accounts... so we never get
the login screen. Our DBA is out, I'll try to figure it out with him
on Monday and let you know. I'm sure if you can do a Windows
Authentication pass then there is a way to just keep it open to anyone
who is on your Intranet.|||On May 4, 12:11 pm, Ayman <ayma...@.gmail.com> wrote:

No login name for restored database users

If I restore a database to a different server it restores
the name of the users but not the Login Name.
How can I restore or copy the users to the destination
server?

No login name for database user.

I am using SQL2000. I took a backup of the database on the live server to setup the database on my new development computer. In the tables, there are 2 owners’ dbo and indiankarma. The tables that are owned by indiankarma are the tables that the site runs from.

The problem: The database user was created by the .bak file and does not have a login name. I created a security login named indiankarma and set the password, default database, server roles, BUT when I set the database access and click OK, it says User 'Indiankarma' already exists. I tried to delete the database user and start from scratch but it tells me the selected user cannot be dropped because the user owns objects.

Now I have tried sp_changedbowner 'indiankarma' which does give the security login name indiankarma database access but it makes the user dbo not indiankarma. I need the web application to read indiankarma.[tablename] not dbo.[tablename]

Can anyone help me with this problem?? Confused

This is a common issue after restoring a database. Check the following blog

http://weblogs.asp.net/steveschofield/archive/2005/12/31/434280.aspx

|||

I don't think I explained the problem correctly. When I restored the data base it created 2 sets of tables for each table. One set owned by dbo and the other set by indiankarma. So I have a table that is indiankarma.ikuserinfo and a table right below it that is dbo.ikuserinfo. All the site data is in the indiankarma owned tables. (see below 1.1)

1.1

The problem is that the 'indiankarma' database user has no login name. (See below 1.2).

1.21.2

Also, the security login 'indiankarma' does not have access to the database (see below 1.3) and when I try to give it access, I get this error 'User 'Indiankarma' already exists.' (see below 1.4)

1.3 1.3

1.41.4

I need to know what I can do to get database user 'indiankara' a login name and how to permit security login 'indiankarma' database access with the user 'indiankarma'. So it looks like the figure below (see below 1.5) but when I click ok, it does not give me the error. Please help!!! No Logging

Gurus,
Is there a way to disable database logging while dropping
tables in SQL Server 6.5? In fact, is there a way to
disable logging completely? I realize this is no way to
run a production database, but sometimes extreme problems
call for extreme actions!
Will greatly appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks,
ChetChet
Turn the database option truncate log on checkpoint to on.
(In EM double click on the database you want and you will
find it under the options tab, just tick it)

John|||No you cannot completely turn off logging. You can set Trunc. log on Chkpt
and SELECT Into/Bulk Copy to true. What are your reasons for wanting to do

database. We have 4 SAP tables that are have 2541, 2504
and 2543 errors. The data in these 4 tables are not
important. I have copied the tables to new customer
defined tables in SAP. Now want to drop the problem tables
and re-create them. Keep running out of log space (4GB)
before i can get to my first checkoint. Suggestions are
always appreciated!

Every night at 11.00pm performs full backup, and dayly every 3 hours
performs differential backup, and trasnactional log backup performs
every 15 minutes during a day.

I am interested what operations i can not recover from log or
differential backup.

I saw that when i drop table i can recover it from log backup, but is
there some operation that can not be recover

Thanks a lot

In full recovery, all operations are logged, including truncating tables,
dropping objects, bulk loads etc., so you can always recover to any point in
time. See "Recovery models" in Books Online.

no locks exist

We have an application running on SQL 7 which we just made changes to. Since
then we've been getting intermittant error message saying "no locks exist for
the table: cddegree. Unable to reset the lock status.." This happens about
25% of the time when we try to enter information into a table that has
nothing to do with cddegree. Any ideas would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks.

No Lock

Lets say i have a view.

vuTestingNoLocks

this view looks like this...

Create View vuTestingNoLocks as

SElect *

From dbo.Employees

inner Join dbo.EmployeeTerritories on EmployeeTerritories.EmployeeID = Employees.EmployeeID

If I select from this view using Select * From vuTestingNoLocks (NOLOCK)

Does the (nolock) command propegate down through the tables? Meaning will it scan tables that are locked still ignoring their locks?

I think you should be able to test it out and come to your own conclusions. Let me know what you are going to interpret from this.

In one window, create these tables, populate dummy data and create the view

Code Snippet

--Start of window1

create table t1 (t1id int identity(10,10),

t1code char(2)

)

create table t2 (t2id int,

t2name varchar(10)

)

insert t1 select 'AB'

insert t1 select 'BC'

insert t1 select 'CD'

insert t2 select 10, 'Group AB'

insert t2 select 20, 'Group BC'

insert t2 select 30, 'Group CD'

create view vw_t1_t2 as

select t1id, t1code, t2name

from t1 join t2

on t1.t1id = t2id

Yes, NOLOCK table hint will be propageted to the tables in view defination.

It is also very usefull for indexed views as they are treated as tables as well.

Please see following article for more detail.

Hope this will answer your question.

I appeciate you taking the time to help me test the theory myself. I didn't think of Opening a transaction and not comitting it to Lock the table..

To answer your question it does propogate down..

THank you for that answer it was very helpful...

No Lock

Lets say i have a view.

vuTestingNoLocks

this view looks like this...

Create View vuTestingNoLocks as

SElect *

From dbo.Employees

inner Join dbo.EmployeeTerritories on EmployeeTerritories.EmployeeID = Employees.EmployeeID

If I select from this view using Select * From vuTestingNoLocks (NOLOCK)

Does the (nolock) command propegate down through the tables? Meaning will it scan tables that are locked still ignoring their locks?

I think you should be able to test it out and come to your own conclusions. Let me know what you are going to interpret from this.

In one window, create these tables, populate dummy data and create the view

Code Snippet

--Start of window1

create table t1 (t1id int identity(10,10),

t1code char(2)

)

create table t2 (t2id int,

t2name varchar(10)

)

insert t1 select 'AB'

insert t1 select 'BC'

insert t1 select 'CD'

insert t2 select 10, 'Group AB'

insert t2 select 20, 'Group BC'

insert t2 select 30, 'Group CD'

create view vw_t1_t2 as

select t1id, t1code, t2name

from t1 join t2

on t1.t1id = t2id

--End of window1

--start of window2

--we are setting up to take exclusive lock

begin tran

update vw_t1_t2

set t1code = 'KK'

--end of window2

--start of window3

--Issue this once

select * from vw_t1_t2 (nolock)

--and this later

select * from vw_t1_t2

--end of window3

No Local instance with SQLServer2005 Dev. Ed.

(New to SQL Server Installs)

I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on a WinXP-SP2
workstation and can see some enterprise databases on the network just
fine.

My problem is I cannot register a local database on the local drive for
testing/education purposes.
(I accepted all of the defaults on the install and thought all was
well.)

There are a couple of small databases that are in development in our
group and I need to work on when offline from the network.

Short of uninstalling the whole product and doing it over, what steps
can I take to remedy this so I will be able to work with DB's locally?

Thanks. My problem is I cannot register a local database on the local drive for

I'm not sure what you mean by 'register' a local database. A database can
be created with CREATE DATABASE (including attach) or RESTORE.

I suggest you create a backup of the desired databases and then restore.
You can use SQL Server Management Studio for this.

|||Dan,
Please accept my 2 apologies; first for a late reply, and second if I
am using SQL-Server terms incorrectly.

On a 2nd test box (WinXP-SP2) I have Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition
installed.

What works:
-When I launch Mgmt Studio, I am able to connect to an enterprise SQL
Server box successfully on our network.
-In Mgmt Studio, when I click on "View/Registered Servers", I can see
"W4082107/test". This is my test box. I am under the impression that
"W4082107/test" is a "local" SQL Server where I can copy sample
databases off of the network and compose and work with copies of
Northwind, etc.

What does not work:
-I am not able to have a local instance of SQL server working on my
local drive to do some practice work with SQL Server.

I'll take a look on MSDN, TechNet and the MSKB for a page (maybe a
'step-by-step') that references setting up a local instance of SQL
Server when it is working with the Enterprise servers just fine. I
thought I could install SQLServer Express to get my local databases to
work, but MS says the Developer Edition and Express cannot exist on the
same box.

I hope this clarifies my original request.

Yes and no. You can backup a database on the big SQL Server, and
restore the database on your machine. But this presumes that there
is a network share somewhere, but both you and SQL Server can access.

You can also use the Copy Database Wizard to copy a database with the
SMO method, which copies the database object by object. But CDW is
very buggy, and may not copy everything.

In what way does it not work? Since you provide no information, I
will ask a couple of basic questions:

* You are certain that you installed the Database Engine and not just
only the tools?
* If so, have you ensured that SQL Server is running? Check this in the
SQL Configuration Manager.
* If it is running, do you connect to it properly. I assume that W4082107
is your workstation. The /test should probably be \test, if you have
installed SQL 2005 as a named instance. You can view the instance
names in the Configuration Manager.

That is not correct. It's perfectly possible to have instance of both
Developer and Expres Edition on the same box. What is not possible is
to install SQL Server Management Studio Express if you have the big
Mgmt Studio installed and vice versa.
