no help dialog in vs ssis

At this point in time, I can think of nothing more annoying than a button that doesn't work. Especially when that button is the HELP button.

Inside SSIS designer, say I add a "derived column tool" to the data flow task. Now if I double-click on the "derived column tool", and then click on the help button in the dialog box that appears, NO help is displayed. What gives?

I am using 64 bit editions of win2k3 and ss05.

Works for me I'm afraid, admittedly not on 64bit!!!

-Jamie

|||There was a bug in the CTPs with the help buttons not working. Are you running RTM edition?|||No, I am not running CTPs. This was boxed product (OEM) from dell with a new server. Note that this is 64 bit Sql Server, so maybe the bug was not fixed in this edition?|||HAS NO ONE ELSE RUN INTO THIS PROBLEM? HOW MANY 64 BIT USERS ARE OUT THERE?|||I suggest you raise a bug at the product feedback centre

No grand total if Time Intelligence Calculation is drag on row

Hi,

I've deployed a simple cube with a time dimension on SQL 2005. I added the time intelligence which generated some calculations like Day over Day difference, Month over Month difference. If I drag it to row on a pivot table, the grand total of the measures cannot be shown.

Is it because the calculated member is not aggregatable? Is there any ways to show the grand total as well as those calculation on the pivot table?

Million Thanks.

KJ

Kelvin,

This is the intended behaviour. The calculations are written in such a way as to purposely place "NA" in cells where the calculated value would not make sense. For example, if you think of a YTD calculation in the context of all years, it doesn't really make sense; likewise for a year over year calculation.

No data to print

Hello Guys,
I am having hard time printing "No data to print" when there are no records returned by the report. Rightnow report prints without data but with all column headings. I would appreciate hearing from you soon.
Thanks
Dilemma

:wave:Hi,
In all headers suppress events write the formula as below
if isnull({DatabaseFeild}) =True then True
Place a new header in the header showing the value "No data to Print"
Now in the suppress event of this header write the formula as
if isnull({DatabaseFeild}) =false then True
Madhivanan|||Hello Madhi,

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your help.

I am just wondering how do u write code header supress event. Do u have to write some code in your eg. VB or PB's event or in crystal report designer itself ? Unfortunately I am using PowreBuilder (pb) for the development.

Thanks
Dilemma|||Hi,
You can use this code in the crystal report itself.
Right click on header and select format section. A pop up menu will appear. There will be a check box labelled as Suppress. In parallel to that a button labelled X-2 is there. Click that button and write the coding I have mentioned. You have to this process for each header. To display "No data to Print", just add a text object and write it as "No data to Print" and in the suppress option write the second formula.

No cubes can be found error

In the data panel of the report designer component, every time I try to create or modify an MDX statement, I'm now getting a "No cubes can be found. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Controls)" error. Works fine on the Layout and Preview tabs. Just all of a sudden appeared. Working fine against relational sources. As a warning to all, Reporting Services and Analysis Services is definitely not a marriage made in heaven. Proceed with caution.I'm going to have to learn to delete my profile everytime something strange happens with SQL 2005. Somehow, my profile on my primary development machine was corrupted again.

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the right forum.

This is the first time that I have seen this error,

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

I have a web app that when some one inserts text in a text box and clicks a button it creates a new web page and a new table in the database. Up until this point it has always worked. A datalist returns the data. In the datalist there is a hyperlink that when clicked takes the client to the new webpage. But for some reason it is not working now and that is the error above.

I am lost. Any help appreciated.

Thanks Matt

I figured it out.

Thanks

Matt

nimdaE + ODBC

i was infected by nimdaE. when i eradicated it, i erased 3 odbc.dll files. from that time, i became unable to use my db connections (access and sqlserver).
what can i do ?
thanks.Download and install the MDAC components from this page:

http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm

If you are using Windows XP, then you need MDAC 2.7, otherwise you can use MDAC 2.6 RTM or MDAC 2.6 SP1.

This should restore the missing DLL files and update your drivers.

Nightly Maintenance Backup Plan fails -- no trace of why

We have been running a backup plan (created using the sql 2005 Maintenance wizard) for some time. It failed last night but all databases seemed to be backed up.

I looked at the ERRORLOG in <mssql2005>\mssql.1\log as well as

"Servname DB Backup Plan_20070118184358.txt"

but found no errors. Where else can I look to see what went wrong?

TIA,

barkingdog

You can also check the logs of the Sql Server Agent job corresponding to the maintenance plan.

Thanks,

Kuntal

|||

>>> check the logs of the Sql Server Agent job

Where are these located? (Are you referring to SQLAgent.OUT? It had nothing of interest.)

Barkingdog

|||

In Sql 2005, for every maintenance plan an Sql Agent job is created by the same name. You can view its logs as Sql Server Agent -> Jobs -> select the job & right click to View History.

Hope that helps

Kuntal

|||

What was the error under the scheduled job for this maintenance plan?

Also try to run thsi manually from SSMS to see the execution, also ensure the SQLAgent account has required privileges to run this job. ALso check what changes have been since last time when this job was running succesfsully.

Newby JOIN question

I'm attempting to use a JOIN for the first time and I'm getting about 94,000 rows returned when I should only be getting about 270. Something must not be unique (possible DSN) but I can't figure out why the join is not working. I know it must be difficult to determine the problem without actually seeing the tables but could somebody with a lot of SQL experience spot any glaring problems with this query? Thanks!

SELECT DS.DSNName AS DSN,
S.ServerName AS WebServer,
DBs.DBName,
A.ServerName AS SQLServer
FROM DSNs DS,
Servers S,
DBs,
DSNs LEFT OUTER JOIN Servers A
ON DSNs.SQLServerID = S.ServerID
WHERE DBs.Status = 1
AND DS.WebserverID = S.ServerID
AND DBs.DBID = DS.DBID
ORDER BY DSN

Hi reformatted, I got this:

SELECT DS.DSNName AS DSN,
S.ServerName AS WebServer,
DBs.DBName,
A.ServerName AS SQLServer
FROM DSNs DS,
INNER JOIN Servers S,
ON DS.WebserverID = S.ServerID
INNER JOIN DBs
ON DBs.DBID = DS.DBID
INNER JOIN DSNs
ON DSNs.SQLServerID = S.ServerID
LEFT OUTER JOIN Servers A
ON DSNs.SQLServerID = A.ServerID --I guess this was wrong as it was pointing to the S.Server not the A.Server, see if this helps.
WHERE DBs.Status = 1
AND DS.WebserverID = S.ServerID
AND DBs.DBID = DS.DBID
ORDER BY DSN

|||Thanks for your reply. I removed a couple unnecessary commas and the query runs but does not pull back any data. I will play around with it. Please let me know if you have any additional suggestions.|||If I am not sure about a query, I always do a step.by-step approach, starting with the base query and adding more joins one by one controlling the expected results after each step. This is much easier than doing the whole query and then guessing by the results which JOIN was not the right one.

Newbie?: Can This Be Done?- If so please direct

Hello NG
I have been working with Access for a Long Time - Am just now starting
to get my feet wet with SQL Server 2000 - We have a production database that
we have moved the tables to SQLServer and I have been creating stored
procedures to replicate some of the processes done on the access side - the
server does process extremely faster than access - Here is my problem I am
currently pulling info from SQL SERVER to Access once a w for wly
stats I want to create a stored procedure to process the wly stats and
push them to an access table upon request - we have multiple warehouses and
i would like to have the process coded once in sql and dump to the access
table based off a warehouse variable passed to the stored procedure - Can
SQLServer from a stored procedure export a recordset into a varible defined
Access Table?
TIAFAH
RandyIt sounds like DTS is what you're looking for. I don't know that I
would recommend this approach to an experienced SQL Server developer
because of its limitations, but in what you're asking for, it seems
ideal. Open Enterprise Manager, right-click your database, select
"Export Data" (it might be under a submenu), follow the wizard. I'm
pretty sure you can specify a stored procedure for the source. If I
remember correctly, you may also schedule the package to run at
intervals.

Newbie: Indexing and speeding up querries

Hi,
Are there any references on the basics of indexing?
I am not very familiar with a lot of concepts and dont have the time to
become an expert.
However, I would like to speed up my processing time. This is quite
important since I get
the results back to a VB front-end and long delays tend to hung the
application.
TIA
-stevesql-server-performance.com is a good place to start.
If you don't want to tune queries yourself, then SQL Server provides an
Index Tuning Wizard in Query Analyzer. This will recommend indexes, based on
the provided workload.
